A time where I am an individual in conflict with a part of a group comes when I go to work. As an individual, I am foul mouthed and socially awkward. When I am in a group at work, I am just socially awkward. I like to feel that when I am at work, I am generally polite, and I try to be helpful. This means that I have to suppress my foul mouthed urges, and contentious outbursts when dealing with customers. They're not really bad people, I'm just a shitty individual. This creates internal conflict for me because as an individual I feel that I am selling out my normal characteristics in order to appease others. On the opposing side of this, when I am part of a group, I feel that my behavior as an individual on my own is reprehensible and needs correction.

First of all, I love the way you write because I was both laughing and saddened by your artfully crafted, mundane description of your name. I find it very interesting that you take no meaning from your name and I am quite the opposite. However, your description did make me realize how names don't really mean that much in the grand scheme of things and I'd be perfectly fine living a life with another name. I suppose my finding meaning in my name is the attempt to create a tangible identity.
ReplyDeleteI love how you're honest about yourself. Although it cracked me up just a bit, I find the way that you view yourself, interesting. But overall, I appreciate the honesty. Not too many people that I know are honest about their personal characteristics. You're definitely going to be one of the IB students that I remember after graduation. lol!
ReplyDeleteActually, I am not to sure if this is honesty. Alexander, I thought your response was creative and well portrayed how you wish to be viewed by others.
DeleteI do, however, have a suggestion. View your education like the same way you view your job. Suppress your feelings and acknowledge your work as beneficial to expanding your knowledge. You will enjoy life more.
Haha, I'm just kidding. I understand your situation is unique and you are responsible enough to do what you'd like with your life. Stay Golden, Pony-boy.
